SAN JOSE, CA – Two senior members with the John J. Montgomery Memorial Cadet Squadron 36 received special recognition on December 13, 2005.
With the unit’s commander, Major Michael “Monty” Montgomery officiating, 2d Lt Joanna M. Lee was presented her Orientation Program completion certificate, formally recognizing her completion of Level 1 Training. In combination with her prior completion of cadet protection training as a former cadet officer, 2d Lt Lee has completed all requirements for the Membership Award and has started the journey towards earning her technician rating in cadet programs and beyond.
Capt Todd E. Bejsovec received the Commanders Commendation Award, presented by Maj Montgomery, on behalf of the California Wing Commander, Col Virginia M. Nelson. In front of a standing audience, Maj Montgomery presented Capt Bejsovec his award and then offered comments to the squadron in testimony to Capt Bejsovec’s CAP contributions. “Though I’ve only had the honor of working with 'Capt B.' since March, he’s been inspirational to me in his volunteer work ethic: 'Capt B' sets a great standard for other senior members to follow.” Also offering personal reflection was 1st Lt Ken Palmer, the unit’s Finance Officer. “You’re a hero,” 1st Lt Palmer mentioned, when speaking of Capt Bejsovec's Air Force service, CAP volunteerism, and aeronautical experience.
The entire squadron enjoyed a piece of cake, shared some smiles, and exchanged more than its share of handshakes as the John J. Montgomery Memorial Cadet Squadron sent Capt Bejsovec and his family on their way.
Citation accompanying Capt Bejsovec’s Commanders Commendation Award:
The Commanders Commendation Award is hereby awarded to Captain Todd E. Bejsovec for meritorious service as an Aerospace Education Officer and as a Cadet Orientation Pilot from 14 March 2003 to 1 January 2006. As a result of an internal desire to give back to his community, Captain Bejsovec volunteered to support America's youth through tireless efforts at Squadron 36. Captain Bejsovec completely reinvigorated the cadets' aerospace education curriculum by bringing the fundamentals of flight to the forefront, tutoring cadets in order to help them pass their aerospace exams, and provided personal testimony from his Air Force service in order to make aerospace education interesting and relevant. Also for the first time in Squadron 36's history, Captain Bejsovec masterminded a model rocketry creation project through his own personal funds so that cadets could directly apply the aerospace concepts they had gained from his classes in a morale building fashion. Furthermore, Captain Bejsovec initiated direct aerospace mentoring for cadet senior noncommissioned officers, which was not only successful in ensuring that one of CAP's three main missions was given its full attention, but further aided Squadron 36's retention of older cadets. In a supplemental historical move for Squadron 36, Captain Bejsovec pursued his CAP pilot rating and a subsequent rating as a cadet orientation pilot. Captain Bejsovec's love of flying and compassion for enriching the lives of cadets compelled him to provide orientation flights for nine cadets in 2005; a 900% increase when compared to the squadron's last five years. As a result of an increased work load in his professional career, as well as family obligations, Captain Bejsovec is closing a very successful contribution to the Civil Air Patrol with nothing less than the utmost respect from his squadron. The distinctive accomplishments of Captain Bejsovec reflect great credit upon himself, the John J. Montgomery Memorial Cadet Squadron 36, and the Civil Air Patrol.
