Cadet Commander Earns AFROTC Scholarship

Member earns an opportunity to become an Air Force commissioned officer

June 7, 2005

Maj Mike "Monty" Montgomery
Commander
John J. Montgomery Memorial Cadet Squadron 36
California Wing

SAN JOSE – Senior and cadet members witnessed a great honor for one of the squadron’s most proactive members on June 7, 2005. During opening formation, Cadet Melissa N. McCargar received an Air Force ROTC scholarship from Capt Donald L. Bush, Jr., Unit Admissions Officer for AFROTC Detachment 045, San Jose State University.

As a result of Cadet McCargar’s hard work and commitment to her education, as well as her outstanding dedication to the CAP’s cadet program, Cadet McCargar made a great candidate for AFROTC’s competitive scholarship selection process.

Capt Bush formally presented Cadet McCargar with her Certificate of Recognition, commenting that "The caliber of Melissa is phenomenal. She will be a huge success in AFROTC and as an AF officer. Melissa competed against over 16,000 students nationwide and is one of just over 2000 selected for scholarship. Depending upon the school, major and her performance, her Type 2 scholarship is at a minimum worth over $60,000 and possibly as much as $90,000"

Cadet McCargar has been accepted to the University of Arizona and plans to pursue Psychology as her major this Fall.
